John Becker's play, Summit Meeting, was performed in a Source Theatre festival held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where it was awarded 1st place by audience vote. He has had plays performed four years in a row at the Source Theatre in D.C. He has had a play performed Off-Broadway at the Emerging Artists Theatre in New York. He has also had plays performed at the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, the Writer's Center, Company 13 and the Run of the Mill Theatre (for which they won a Greater Baltimore Theatre Award), and the Human Rights Arts Festival for Amnesty International.

He has been awarded an Individual Artist's Grant by the Maryland State Arts Council for both playwrighting and fiction.

What's New? 

karlmarx.com, the play adapted from Susan Coll's hilarious novel of the same name, will  be presented at the Kennedy Center on Saturday, September 3rd at 7:30 in Rehearsal Room 1. There will be a question and answer with Susan and John afterwards. Please come and join us!

The Ghosts of Dickens was a Standing Room Only performance at the Page to Stage series at the Kennedy Center. Thanks to all who attended--and especially the amazing cast! The script has been requested by a number of companies around the country.

John is collaborating on a screenplay for a short film. Details forthcoming.

The Essential Theatre will premiere A Field of Thorns in 2012, with S. Robert Morgan of The Wire serving as artistic director. 

John Becker will be teaching a theatre class to underprivileged children through a federal Positive Youth Initiative Grant.
